The Link
March 4, 2006

In attendance: Daniel Augusta, Erik Berg, Ayden Buss, Jaclyn Kuffel, Arthur MacKinnon, Stefany Morrison, Jaimie Parker, Kerri Potter, Emily Sirota, Sarah Watkins
Super(duper)visor: Mary McCown-Kobinger

News
• Possible ways of publishing our wonderful book of randomness:
o Apple iPhoto, a computer program that would allow us to format the book ourselves, then send it off for publishing. This would cost around $10 per book.
o Websites such as www.lulu.com, which would probably be a little more expensive (around $12-17 at Lulu)
o Printing companies in Winnipeg
• The deadline for submissions has been pushed back to April 16, 2006, so as to include Spring Session classes. Submissions can be e-mailed to mmccown@mtyp.ca or submitted in person to the Theatre School office.
• We are thinking about painting upstairs, around where the vending machines are currently located, and creating a “hangout corner” of sorts. However, this is still rather up in the air. More information will follow.
Future Projects
• The Link’s next bake sale will be Saturday, April 8, 5:30-7:30, during the Art Summit. If you are interested in providing baked goods or helping to sell them, contact Mary McCown-Kobinger at mmccown@mtyp.ca or Stefany Morrison at stefstefo@hotmail.com.

In attendance: Daniel Augusta, Erik Berg, Ayden Buss, Jaclyn Kuffel, Arthur MacKinnon, Jaimie Parker, Kerri Potter, Emily Sirota, Sarah Watkins
Super(duper)visor: Mary McCown-Kobinger

News:
• We are getting lots of submissions for the MTYP Teens’ Book of Art and Writings! Keep ‘em coming! Also, if anybody has any ideas for a name…
• Stefany can no longer assist Mary with the bake sale, but Sarah and Jaclyn are baking. We do, however, need more people to bake and otherwise help out.
The time of The Link’s meetings will change for Spring Session classes! Tentative arrangements are Saturdays at 1:00, starting Saturday April 8, 2006. If this does not work for you, please let us know.
Future Projects:
• We wanted to hold another 24/7! We discussed having it sometime in May, but it is as yet just an idea. More will follow.
Randomness

News
· We are still getting lots of submissions for the art and writing book! Keep ‘em coming!
· It is unfortunately not possible to hold a second 24/7 this year. The next one will be sometime this fall or winter.
· We are still unsure of what is going to happen with the corner upstairs, i.e. whether the vending machines will be moved, whether we will be able to paint in that corner, what will become of our bulletin board, etc.
Future Projects
· Wanted: MTYP teenagers to write and put on one or more 5-10 minute plays with the theme of safety. The play(s) would be performed at the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, May 28 from 9-5 at Assiniboine Park. The Link would be paid an honorarium of $250 for doing so. More information is available at www.goodbear.mb.ca.

• The Coffeehouse was amazing! Everything went very well, and we made $62 from the event. This means that in total, we have around $160 (conservative estimate).
• We discussed ideas as to what to do with this money. Possible places to donate locally included Art City and Children’s Hospital; in particular we know of a family at Children’s Hospital who are in great need of assistance. We also discussed small groups of MTYP teens going to Children’s Hospital to entertain during the week.
Future Projects
• As the new vending machines upstairs are going to be moved, we talked about painting a mural on that wall.
• If possible, we would like to have another bake sale on Saturday, April 8, during the Art Summit.
• Introducing the first-ever book of art and writings by MTYP teens, for MTYP teens! Here’s how it works: all MTYP teens and company members (that includes Junior Company,) are invited to submit poetry, short stories, art, photographs, etcetera. The submissions will then be bound and printed in a book and sold in support of future Link projects and donations. The submission deadline is Sunday, March 12; you can e-mail contributions to The Link at the_link_mtyp@hotmail.com or Mary at mmccown@mtyp.ca, or submitted in person at MTYP. Written contributions must be no longer than 1000 words, and profanity will not be allowed. If we have any concerns about content, we will bring them up with the author/artist.

If you are interested in joining The Link or helping out with any of its events, weekly meetings are held Saturdays from 2– 3 in the Theatre School office. 1. We discussed having a bake sale during our coffeehouse on February 24th!
  2. We thought that instead of turning Toad’s lookout (the area across from Box Office) into a "hang out" area, we could turn the upstairs area where THE LINK bulletin board is into a "hang out" area because there’s more space there. Mary will propose this idea this week to see if it will work.
  3. I, Erica Lasker, will no longer be the secretary for THE LINK. Instead, Daniel Augusta will be taking over as secretary. I have had a wonderful time typing up the minutes every week and am so glad I had this opportunity!!

Should you wish to join THE LINK or help with this event, feel free to attend any of our weekly meetings, held Saturdays at 2:00 in the Theatre School office or e-mail us at the_link_mtyp@hotmail.com. 24/7 Slogan [23 Nov 2005|04:12pm]

emily_kerouac
[ mood | creative ]

Hey guys, it's Emily. I've been asked to ask y'all if any of you have ideas for what it should say on the 24/7 shirts. The slogan should be short and sweet (or sour). Right now, all we're working with is "I survived 24/7" and "24/7: How Do You Fight It?". Seeing as those are what Young Company has put on their shirts the past two years, I think we should definitely get something new out there. Feel free to leave them in a comment or to e-mail the Link, at the_link_mtyp@hotmail.com.

Wouldn't it be cool if we actually had 1,000,000 people in The Link?! [22 Nov 2005|07:15pm]

Hey all you people! Well, I’ve made a few designs for the 24/7 t-shirt, but I know you’re all good thinkers, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for the logo? I’ll make it, but maybe someone thinks it’d be a good idea to have a badger on it, in which case, I’ll look at making a badger brush and applying it onto the logo! Kidding about the badger thing, by the way.

Right now I’ve been making them with the slogan “I survived MTYP’s 24/7”, by the way, and the word colouring is black and red with a small graphic thingy on it. They’re just modern circles though.

By the way, don’t be offended if I don’t end up taking your suggestion, if any of you have any. Let’s say a million of you do. Clearly I can’t put a million things on the logo. I might not even apply anyone’s suggestion on it. In that case, it definitely wouldn’t be because I think you suck, but because it just wasn’t working out.

1) THE LINK is planning a canteen at 24/7 selling food like smarties, pizza pops, chips, instant noodles, etc.

2) We discussed possibly selling t-shirts at 24/7 that could have written on them, “I survived 24/7” or “How do you fight it? 24/7”. We thought that the t-shirts should be in a light colour so other 24/7 participants could sign them.

3) We discussed possible fundraising ideas such as a Coffee House or a party in the future.

Hello my fellow Linkers! This thing you’re seeing right now happens to be The Link’s Livejournal Community, so I hope you all like it and will put it to good use. :) The rules and information will hopefully be put in the userinfo page soon, and the layout will be coming up … um … soon!!! I’m working on it, don’t worry! The 2 people who will be moderating this community are myself (Jaimie Parker) and Emily Sirota. I’m sure you all know Emily, and I hope you all know me, but if not, then that’s not important – just realize that she’ll probably do more of the social stuff because I have troubles explaining things and I’ll sit here and giggle about HTML. (Yes, I’m a nerd.)

Nevertheless, you all should know of The Link’s email address at this point – if not, it’s the_link_mtyp@hotmail.com. You can contact any of us at that address.

Adios!

JAIMIE P.
